7/21/2023 0 Comments Old fashioned drink recipe bourbon![]() Stir, enjoy, top up with whiskey as needed. Work out all of your irk and angst from the day until the thing is positively pulped, and then free-hand pour your whiskey (bourbon for him, rye for me) until you are right with your personal cocktail angels, and then add the correct amount of ice cubes for your personal level of pleasure (practically the size of a human fist for him and two or three for me). Add a prime slice of the orange to the mix (a blood orange if you have it, and ideally take care to avoid a variety with a rind so thick as to be spongy) and have at it with that muddler. Spoon in one of those aforementioned Amarenas and utterly obliterate it with the muddler, working it into the sludgy sugar until the bulk of it is indistinguishable from the grains. Drench that with bitters (Angostura for him, Ango and orange or smoked cherry bitters for me). You really can’t beat this cocktail for it’s ease to make and great level of satisfaction. Here goes: Coat the bottom of a double old-fashioned glass with your preferred amount of sugar (a dusting for me and a flurry for him). 5 oz Nocello Walnut Liqueur 3 dashes Angostura Bitters Orange Twist INSTRUCTIONS Step one Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and fill with. It’s lightly spicy, softly fruity, and and full of whiskey depth. STRENGTH DIFFICULTY easy INGREDIENTS 2 oz bourbon. Pour the bourbon over the ice and gently stir. Muddle until the sugar is mostly dissolved this may take a minute or two. It’s bourbon-heavy but has a delicacy to it that’s lush. Place a sugar cube, the bitters, and water into the bottom of an old fashioned or small glass. Overall, we’re talking about a true classic with clear and concise flavor notes. The bitters and orange add a nice level of botanical spice and sharp citrus counterpoint to the lush vanilla and apple orchard sensations in the flavor profile. ![]() Yup, delicious! There’s a lovely softness to the texture of this drink (thanks to the quality of the bourbon) that feels like silk on your palate. Twist the peel and drop it into the ice cube.
